The History of Evansville in brief.
Evansville, Wisconsin was founded in 1839. It was a major place for the civil war. The Evansville fairgrounds were a majorly popular place here. Our lake called "Lake Leota" is the reason why most people move here. No one knows for sure when Lake Leota got its name. For many years after the little lake was known simply as the mill pond. By the time the 1891 map of Evansville was printed, the old mill pond was identified as "Lake Leota." From the 1840s until 1900, the mill pond was used as a mill race that powered a grain mill.
